Moving to another server and provider

Wednesday, 21 Feb 2007 | Blogging

The thirtyone.com domain has been mine for many years and for just as many years has been hosted on the servers of DMA. The people at DMA have been incredibly helpful and I thank both them and the people at Netspanning for all their help. The move is NOT one of discontent, it is a purely financial reasons. Companies seeking to have their website hosted, should certainly contact DMA as they provide excellent servers. Mine however, is a personal site and I have decided to cut down the costs of running this site.

I have just changed some settings for this domain and in the next 24-48 hours, all visitors to this site as well as email sent to me will be directed to the new server. The site is currently running on two servers, the little red box (which is on every page) will tell you which server you’re visiting when you go to my website. You don’t have to do anything or change my e-mail address in your address book, all will remain the same. I wanted to inform you, because despite all the preparations something might go wrong.

Post scriptum:
So the move went pretty much without a hickup. The site and my mail is now up and running on the servers at 1&1 Internet. All I have left to do is move all the mailboxes from the old to the new provider.

Meanwhile, the site over on this new server does have a few minor issues. I’ve installed updated versions of software I use for this site and the Links page doesn’t seem to work properly anymore. Also, the private ‘sixtyssshhh’ section is not online right now. Neither were used a whole lot, so I’m not going to spend too much time getting these back up to speed. I’m thinking about making some changes to the site, so stay tuned.
