Make some alterations

Saturday, 12 Nov 2005 | Blogging

For the last couple of months, I’ve been writing this blog and I’ve been getting positive feedback. It regularly sparks talk about my move in either email or face-to-face chats with friends and family. I’m growing increasingly happy with the result, but also see room for improvement.

Quick jots

Right now, I write mostly finished articles on here. This means I have to research and write them before I post them, which means they can be ‘under development’ for quite some time. I feel the need to be able to store factoids and short thoughts. Typically one-liners, no longer than a paragraph.

I wonder how to incorporate these things. If I publish them as ‘articles’ in for instance a “Quick notes” category, they will be sent as emails and appear on the site and in the RSS feeds like normal articles. Would you, the reader, appreciate that? Or should I make a seperate section, like the links, where these are gathered?

Personal commentary

New readers regularly tell me they are amazed at how personal I sometimes get in the articles on here. I always try to explain to them I feel I can only then benefit from writing this blog and so take the added exposure for granted. But I also feel a need to write even more personal things on here. My own emotions, but also observations that might be too personal to share with the general internet audience but that I would like to share with my friends and family.

I guess here again, I could write the articles in a seperate category and for instance only send them out as emails to friends and family and not post them on the site or RSS feeds. But I’m open to other suggestions.

So a change of the weblog is probably going to happen after I return from my trip. Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

New categories

Due to my recent ‘enlightenment’, there are two other things I think need to be changed about this weblog. The first is the name, sixtysix, which is the countrycode for Thailand. However, I figured this is what people know now and will be valid at least until I move out of Thailand. At that time I’ll see what to do about the name.

What does need changing is the organisation of categories. Right now, it’s mostly geared towards life in Thailand and articles about other countries don’t really have a place. So in the near future, expect to see this happen.
